Responsibilities:
- Ensuring vehicles are mechanically sound and legally roadworthy.
- Performing basic repairs and maintenance in the event of accident or breakdown while in transit.
- Safely securing heavy loads and large goods for transport.
- Organising the most efficient route from pickup point to drop off point.
- Keeping informed of road closures, accidents and traffic diversions.
- Organising multiple drop-offs and deliveries in each working day.
- Supervising and assisting with the loading and unloading of deliveries into the lorry.
- Updating vehicle log books, recording deliveries and tracking mileage.
- Complying with all MOT and in- house regulations and rules.
Requirements:
- Must be over 18 years of age with the ability to lift 20 kilogrammes.
- A full driving license, ideally with zero points.
- Ability to drive long distances in cramped conditions while maintaining concentration.
- Ability to drive through the night or spend long periods of time away from home.
- Mechanical skills, such as changing the engine oil.
- Ability to communicate with both suppliers and customers and provide up-to-date information, such as delivery times.
